SPD#016: doo doo doo – jb 007 / a chinesinha

doo doo doo is a fresh experimental pop music band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
After the first album, “Casa das Macacas”, released independently in late 2012 and hailed by critics, the band returns with the EP Duplo A, a launch in partnership with the greek collective Sonic Playground.
The EP contains two unreleased tracks, recorded and mixed in the new band’s own studio, Coletivo Machina.
Composed during a period in which turbulent political demonstrations took the streets of Rio de Janeiro, the songs “JB 007” and “A Chinesinha” necessarily dialogue with the reflections that were imposed to citizens since June 2013.
Delays, reverbs, loops, a percussive microphone, some flying keyboards and a drumming MPC are the elements that the weird pop group presented on their first album, titled “Casa das Macacas” (House of Monkey). The album’s name is a reference to the room/studio where the band used to rehearse and where they recorded the album in a schema ‘home-made’, DIY. No hurry.
Formed in 2011, doo doo doo did some gigs at well-known places like Plano B, Comuna and Audio Rebel, in Rio de Janeiro and in projects like Cep 20000 and Grito Rock, besides participating in the TV programs “Experimente” of the cable channel Multishow and “Segue o Som” and “Estúdio Móvel” of  TV Brasil.
With influences as diverse as tUnE-yArDs, Animal Collective, Youssou N’Dour and Brazilian DJ Sany Pitbull, the band is often associated to the new experimental music scene from Rio. “One of us is an academic trained conductor and schooled in heavy metal. Another one has more brazilian popular and progressive style, and a third one took a MPC and completed the band” explained the guitarist Dudu Guedes for the major brazilian newspaper O Globo, on a story about new bands from Rio de Janeiro.
doo doo doo (with lowercase) won a prize for making a video clip of the track “Carnaval no Fogo” (Carnival on fire) mixing carnival and zombies. The band also has two videos for the tracks “Mais” (More) and “Maré Exquizita” (Weird Tide), directed by themselves.
